We've updated the Report SDK. There were some minor changes to the object, and we added some samples and a Database Reference, which should help with writing queries. Check it out and let us know what you think!
OK. So today we released the first beta of the Reporting SDK. With it, a developer can write any conceivable query against the GiftWorks database and display the results in a list-style report in GiftWorks.
What does this mean?
Well, if you have some SQL and VBScript skills, you can now create lots of different reports that are not possible with the standard reporting in GiftWorks.
What's next?
The first thing will probably be an add-in that will allow us to share the best of these new reports with the whole world of GiftWorks users. For now, you can use the SDK to create and save a GRDF (GiftWorks Report Definition File), which would comprise the, um...definition of your GiftWorks Report. Then, any other user who has the SDK could use a script to Load and Show that GRDF.
Try out the SDK. Run the samples, check out the documentation, try out your own...Share your code in the forums. I'll be prowling them (the forums) actively and will be glad to help you out with a query or any questions.
Enjoy!
Wow. So Chris slaved away for weeks putting together the Reports SDK for Reports to make it easier for you to develop really great reports. The samples are decently documented and the API is a pretty good start for the SDK.
One thing I'd really like you to consider is this: sharing your code. Share it! Yes! Spread the goodness. Your contribution can help thousands of nonprofits using GiftWorks. And that's why this site is called DevHero: you're the real heroes here. We're going to try our best to keep giving you the tools to help nonprofits do their thing better.
And we're here to help you, too, so feel free to ask. Post early, post often. The General SDK Discussion is the best forum for, well, general stuff. See you over there.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with! Have a great time, and check in now and again, okay?
